and wanted an bartender for a brief movie part. Willis was involved in numerous
auditions prior to being cast in the well-known romantic comedy, Moonlighting
(1985), as David Addison. His humorous, wisecracking P.I. is the highlight of
his career. is viewed by some as an exercise in preparation for the role of hard-boiled
NYC detective "John McClane" in the horror film Die Hard (1988), in
which Willis' character single-handedly battled an gang of vicious
international thieves in a Los Angeles skyscraper. The sequel, Die Hard 2
(1990), Willis reprised his role in the role of McClane. The plot set in
Washington's Dulles International Airport where a group of rebellious Special
Forces soldiers are trying to reclaim a corrupt South American general. The
success of the film at the box office prompted a further sequel, Die Hard with
a Vengeance (1995), this time co-starring Samuel L. Jackson as a cynical Harlem
shop owner who accidentally gets into supporting McClane in the aftermath of a
terrorist bombing campaign on a sweltering day in New York.
